What we built

Amberhill Gallery & Gift Shop collaborated with the Coalition for a Liveable Sudbury to create a Free Little Art Gallery as part of Project Impact Sudbury. The goal was simple: build a display where anyone could exchange handmade art, designed to withstand Northern Ontario’s weather year-round. Exterior-grade paint was matched to the Amberhill shop’s exterior, visually tying the gallery to its surroundings. A blend of red and white cedar was selected for its durability, warmth, and longevity. Tight joinery and overhangs shield the artwork from the elements, while a clear plexiglass window ensures visibility and reduces weight on the hinges. The result is a low-maintenance gallery that invites creative exchange and stands up to the seasons.
